Novice Class
Colorguards in this class have an average age of below 12 years old. They are in the very beginning stages of their training and performing careers. Productions from these colorguards range from a minimum of 3 minutes to a maximum of 4 minutes in length with no minimum equipment time* requirement. Either Scholastic or Independent sponsoring organizations may enter a Novice unit into competition. This class utilizes the NWPA Novice adjudication material for competitive evaluation.

Prep Class
Colorguards in this class have an average age of 12 or more years old and are able to demonstrate elements of basic training in equipment, movement and performance qualities. Productions from these colorguards range from a minimum of 3 minutes to a maximum of 4 minutes with at least 3 minutes of equipment time* included in the production. Emphasis is placed on the training of the individual member, but it is also expected that basic principles of show design are also demonstrated by the unit. Either Scholastic or Independent sponsoring organizations may enter a Prep unit into competition. This class utilizes the WGI Regional A adjudication material for competitive evaluation.
